Before you can proceed to the application form, please complete this quick survey to determine if you may be eligible to apply for Special Consideration.

Please note: if you have already been granted Special Consideration (e.g. special exam, alternative assessment task, extension etc.) for the same subject and assessment task, you will need to provide documentary evidence to demonstrate that you were impacted by an extraordinary circumstance e.g. evidence of total incapacitation or hospitalisation at the time of the assessment task was to be sat, presented or submitted, or an additional Medical Impact Statement verifying there has been no improvement in your condition or the severity of your original circumstances. If your assessment task is worth less than 15%, you can still apply for Special Consideration but you will need to:
1. Speak to your Subject Coordinator and/or submit a request in writing (email) within three (3) working days from the due date of your assessment task (e.g. if the assessment task is due Monday, you must submit your request by no later than Wednesday).
2. Provide supporting documentation to demonstrate the impact of your circumstances.

When do/did you require to attend/submit the assessment task?

Based on your answer, you are not eligible to apply for Special Consideration. Special Consideration is intended for recent adverse and unexpected circumstances with short/immediate impact.

Ongoing medical condition:

  • Please contact AccessAbility if you have an ongoing medical condition or are a primary carer of a person with disability.
  • If you have a Learning Access Plan (LAP) you may apply for Special Consideration if there has been an exacerbation of your ongoing condition, or you have experienced unrelated circumstances of an acute nature.
  • If you have a LAP and want to request an extension, please negotiate directly with the subject coordinator as outlined in your LAP. Please contact your disability advisor if you have questions about your LAP.

Do you have, or are you able to obtain, documentation to demonstrate the date of the circumstance and/or the date(s) of the impact e.g. Medical Impact Statement, police report, death/funeral notice/or Statutory Declaration in the case of Sorry Business?

Do you have or can you obtain documentary evidence of exceptional circumstances justifying why you were unable to submit your application within the five working day time limit, or do you have a Learning Access Plan (LAP)?

Do one or more of the following circumstances apply to you: Your assessment task is due in less than three working days; you require more than five days extension; you're applying for an exam?

Based on your answers, you may be considered for Special Consideration.

Terms and conditions for submitting an application for Special Consideration

  1. This application has been completed and submitted by me, the person impacted.
  2. I agree, where applicable, I will continue to submit or attend the assessment task to the best of my ability while this application is under assessment.
  3. I understand this application does not guarantee that Special Consideration will be granted for the assessment task.
  4. The supporting documentation I have submitted is in a format accepted by La Trobe University and it has not been altered.
  5. I agree that La Trobe University assumes no responsibility for obtaining or confirming information provided in this application.
  6. I understand and accept that La Trobe University reserves the right to contact the provider of my supporting documentation to confirm the accuracy and authenticity of my document. I hereby authorise La Trobe University to make such inquiries and receive such information to confirm the accuracy and authenticity of my supporting documentation.

Do you have, or are able to obtain, documentation to demonstrate the date of the circumstance and/or the date(s) of the impact that will have an impact on your ability to complete/attend your assessment task e.g. Medical Impact Statement, police report, death/funeral notice or, if you have a LAP, a personal statement explaining the impact of your circumstances on the completion of your assessment task?

Based on your answer, you are not eligible to apply for Special Consideration, however you may be eligible to submit a request for an extension of time via LMS.

Do you have/are you able to obtain additional documentation to demonstrate that impact of the circumstance occurred during the period directly leading to or at the time of assessment task date e.g. Medical Impact Statement, police report, death/funeral notice?

Based on your answer, you are you are not eligible to apply for Special Consideration. Late application for Special Consideration may be considered in extreme circumstances and the application must be supported by documentation (e.g. evidence of hospitalisation or evidence demonstrating total incapacitation) justifying why the application could not be submitted within the five working day time limit.
