Are you eligible for special consideration?

Before you can proceed to the application form, please complete this quick survey to determine if you may be eligible to apply for special consideration.

Please note: if you have already been granted special consideration e.g. special exam, alternative assessment task, extension etc.) for the same subject and assessment task, you will need to provide documentary evidence to demonstrate that you were impacted by an extraordinary circumstance e.g. evidence of total incapacitation or hospitalisation at the time of the assessment task was to be sat, presented or submitted.

Is the assessment worth at least 15%?

Was your ability to prepare for or complete the assessment task affected by a serious circumstance (including an exacerbation of an existing medical condition) that occurred suddenly and recently e.g. within the last month?

If your assessment task is worth less than 15%, you can still apply for special consideration but you will need to:
1. Speak to your Subject Coordinator and/or submit a request in writing (email) within three (3) working days from the due date of your assessment task (e.g. if the assessment task is due Monday, you must submit your request by no later than Wednesday).
2. Provide supporting documentation to demonstrate the impact of your circumstances.

When do/did you require to attend/submit the assessment task?

Based on your answer, you are not eligible to apply for special consideration. Special consideration is intended for recent adverse and unexpected circumstances with short/immediate impact.

Ongoing medical condition:

  • Please contact Equity and Diversity if you have an ongoing medical condition or are a primary carer of a person with disability.
  • If you have a Learning Access Plan (LAP) and want to request an extension, please negotiate directly with the subject coordinator as outlined in your LAP.  Please contact your disability advisor if you have questions about your LAP.

Do you have, or are able to obtain, documentation to demonstrate the date of the circumstance and/or the date (s) of the impact e.g. Medical Impact Statement, police report, death/funeral notice?

Do you have documentary evidence of extraordinary circumstances justifying why you were unable to submit your application within the three working day time limit?

Based on your answer, you have the following options:

  • for in-semester task: please submit a request for an extension of time via LMS.
  • for an exam: it is always recommended that you attend your exams if you are able to do so. However, you may submit an application on or after the date of your exam (but no more than three working days after) if you have appropriate documentary evidence to demonstrate the date(s) and severity of the impact at the time of your exam. This will allow us to assess your application with up-to-date information and ensure that you receive the best outcome/adjustment from the subject coordinator.

Based on your answers, you may be considered for special consideration.
