Compulsory professional experience placements undertaken for academic credit in a school, early learning or education and care setting.

We offer professional experience placements for students with compulsory placement components in their course. The placements are organised by staff members in the Placement Operations team with local, regional, international and cultural education partners. These placements give you the opportunity to work in a supportive educational setting, integrating theory with practice, and developing the skills and experience you will need as a teacher once you have graduated. They are organised to meet the requirements for teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Before you go on your first placement you will be required to obtain a Working With Children Check.

We offer the opportunity for rural, interstate and overseas placement opportunities. Applicants for international experiences must have completed at least one placement in a local school before applying. Students have recently taken up opportunities in India, Malaysia, Spain, Nepal, Sweden and Switzerland. These opportunities are on hold during the COVID-19 situation.

Scholarships and grants apply to many of these international placements, and the Victorian Department of Education and Training gives financial support to pre-service teachers who undertake a Victorian rural placement. Details are posted on the student’s Learning Management System (LMS) as they become available.

We provide you with the essential information relating to placements on the student’s Learning Management System (LMS), under the Professional Experience tab. A La Trobe login is required.
