Wireless (eduroam) - manual setup

eduroam is a global co-operative that allows university staff and students who are visiting educational and research institutions to gain access to that institution's wireless network using their home university login.

Configuring eduroam for La Trobe staff and students

Laptops managed by IS will automatically have eduroam configured when connected to the La Trobe network.

Visitors to La Trobe should consult with their home institution for configuration instructions.

Using eduroam

All La Trobe staff and students can use the eduroam network at any participating institution. When visiting participating institutions, La Trobe University students can connect to the eduroam network using their La Trobe username@students.ltu.edu.au and password. Staff can connect to the eduroam network using their La Trobe username@ltu.edu.au and password. Please note, this is not your email address.

Visitors to the University from participating institutions can access the eduroam network using the login credentials from their home institution.

Note: Staff and students are advised to test their eduroam connection at La Trobe prior to visiting external institutions.

Availability

eduroam is available at the following La Trobe campuses in the same locations that wireless connectivity is available:

  • 360 Collins Street, City Campus
  • Albury-Wodonga campus
  • Bendigo campus
  • Melbourne (Bundoora) campus
  • Mildura campus
  • Shepparton campus, Fryers St building


eduroam is also available at over 25,000 sites worldwide, throughout 30 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and the UK.

This list of participating institutions indicates which Australian institutions provide support for eduroam.

Available resources

Access to the eduroam network is free of charge as long as you have credentials from a participating institution.

Visitors to La Trobe University will be able to access internal and external websites and run their Virtual Private Network (VPN) client back to their home institution.

La Trobe students and staff should consult the eduroam website at the institution they are visiting for information on available resources. Staff will need to install the VPN client to access certain services on the La Trobe network.

Conditions of use

The use of eduroam is governed by the Australian Eduroam Policy. All users must also comply with the La Trobe University Use of Computer Facilities Statute 2009 [PDF 51KB] when using this service.
