Students examine the social and cultural context of education and implications for outdoor education. Components include discourses on the outdoors and 'the bush', curriculum enquiry and implications for teaching in the outdoors and global citizenship. Students undertake an agreed Applied Learning Experience of 3 days linked to an observational assignment.

01. Demonstrate understanding of curriculum considerations and educational philosophies underpinning outdoor education practice, including the ability to critically examine aims and purposes of outdoor education, and recognise and evaluate flawed aims.
02. Understand theoretical and practical aspects of the relationships between place, knowledge, meaning and personal experience.
03. Understand some social and cultural dimensions of outdoor education practice.
04. Recognise situational aspects of outdoor education and how these may be manifest in practice.
05. Observe and reflect on outdoor education practice.
