Updated requirements for all international travellers arriving in Australia (Updated 30/11/2021)

Due to the emerging situation with the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the Australian Government has paused all international travel for returning international students until at least December 15. Please continue to check here for updates regarding border re-opening plans and requirements to self-isolate and/or quarantine upon arrival.

Frequent updates will be made to ensure you have the most recent information you need to support your transition to Australia.

The following information will support:

  • current students arriving as a part of the International Students Arrival Plan
  • current students returning independently
  • current students already onshore and ready for on-campus learning
  • new students and current students arriving to La Trobe for the first time
  • new students considering La Trobe

Fully vaccinated international students and eligible visa holders can travel to Australia from the 15th December 2021 without needing a travel exemption.

Your journey to studying on-campus at La Trobe

  • Be prepared before you travel

    Before you travel to Australia you will need to be vaccinated and will require a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and Visa.

    Once you have your CoE and Visa, you can arrange your travel to Australia.

  • Arrange your accommodation

    Before you leave your home country, you need to book two kinds of accommodation:

    1. Private accommodation to complete your self-isolation
    2. Accommodation for the duration of your studies

    Accommodation information for self-isolation

    La Trobe University is unable to provide on-campus accommodation to arriving international students who are required to self-isolate.

    Arriving international students required to self-isolate must book private accommodation that has private bathroom and kitchen facilities.

    Accommodation close to the Bundoora and Bendigo campuses are listed on the Accommodation for returning international students webpage.

    Accommodation information for the duration of your studies

    On-Campus Accommodation is available at our Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo and Melbourne (Bundoora) campuses.

    Special rates and offers are currently available for enrolled international students.

    All On-Campus Accommodation must be booked before arriving in Australia and special rates and offers begin after the completion of all government isolation requirements (including two negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests).

  • Let us know when you’re arriving

    All international students enrolled at La Trobe are eligible for a free airport pick up.

    Complete the airport pick up form to arrange your free airport pick up.

  • Obtain your entry permit and COVID-19 test

    All students will need to obtain a COVID-19 test before you depart your home country. You will need to be able to demonstrate a negative test result within 72 hours of your scheduled flight.

    Undertake the COVID-19 border entry process by applying for your permit to enter Victoria from overseas.

    Complete your International passenger arrivals permit application

  • Undertake required COVID-19 testing upon arrival

    Get a COVID-19 PCR test within 24 hours of your arrival and undertake another PCR test between day 5 and 7 after entering Victoria. You will need to keep a copy of your PCR test results with you for 14 days after your arrival to provide if requested.

  • Check in when you arrive on campus

    When you arrive on campus, check in and register your arrival to Australia at our Welcome Zones.

    Welcome Zones are located in the ASK La Trobe Help Zone at each campus.
