Subject outline

In this subject, students will explore the importance of communication as a foundation to their practice as a health professional. Students will examine how personal and cultural factors, values and life experiences may influence professional communication. Students will develop a suite of communication skills as a foundation for culturally safe and reflective practice as a health professional. Students will study concepts of professionalism, ethics, interprofessional collaborative practice and digital literacy as it relates to contemporary health care practice. Students will work in teams to develop an understanding of teamwork that involves individuals cooperating and collaborating towards a shared goal. This subject supports the development of foundation academic skills and information literacy required for university study.

Three 2.00 hours seminar per study period on weekdays during the day from week 10 to week 22 and delivered via face-to-face.

Twelve 1.00 hour unscheduled online class per study period on weekdays during the day from week 10 to week 22 and delivered via online.
Students will access a range of online and multimedia resources, to support their learning, including podcasts, vodcasts and other online resources. This will be equivalent to twelve hours of face-to-face activity per semester.

The weekly reflections will be incorporated alongside relevant literature into the final written submission which will account for the remaining 35% of this asses
