Subject outline

This subject will equip you with the theoretical support for your application of clinical skills throughout the year. Through a series of online interactive modules you will extend your knowledge base in each discipline area within dentistry - periodontics, endodontics, oral medicine, oral surgery, removable prosthodontics, paedodontics, orthodontics, extra-oral dental radiography and special needs. These online modules will be supplemented and supported by dental specialty clinics in selected discipline areas during your clinical placement. You will also participate in a one week 'Back to Base' conference on-campus, which will focus on the interdisciplinary approach to treatment planning and patient management as well as more specific discipline-focused learning activities.

01. Discuss the ways in which the various disciplines in dentistry relate to each other and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment planning.

02. Investigate and analyse clinical issues in periodontics, endodontics, oral medicine, oral surgery, removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, pedodontics, orthodontics, extraoral radiography, special needs dentistry and present resolutions to a range of clinical orientated complex problems.

03. Formulate multidisciplinary treatment plans for patients with complex dental problems.

04. Investigate a clinically orientated complex case or topic and individually, and/or in a team, present a synthesis of theoretical findings and the clinical application to dental practice.

05. Design and implement a dental health promotion activity or tool based on the principles of disease prevention
