Subject outline

In this subject, students critically reflect on their experience of policy in social work practice and build their capacity for policy analysis and advocacy. Students will appraise social policy theory, in particular, key social welfare ideologies and theories of justice, rights, needs and capabilities.Students will apply this policy knowledge to analyse and evaluate contemporary social policy. Students will demonstrate critical understanding of institutional and other diverse factors that shape social policies and the rational and political processes by which policy is developed and implemented. Students will develop the skills necessary to become beginning policy practitioners who can use experience and research to identify issues, interpret policy, and contribute to processes of policy development and change.
