Subject outline
This subject will familiarize students with child and adolescent mental health and neuro-psychological problems. The unit includes normal and abnormal development with regard to cognitive, social and emotional functioning, the impact of brain injury and illness. Lectures address prevalence, aetiology,assessment, treatment and early intervention. Topics include neuro-developmental and clinical disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Disruptive and Conduct Disorders, Anxiety,Depression, Post traumatic Stress disorder, self harm and suicide. Cultural and linguistic diversity will be considered.
