Subject outline

This subject provides an introduction to contemporary political economy. Students examine the major schools of political economy, including behavioural economics, institutional political economy, neoclassical economics, and post-Keynsianism, along with feminist and radical political economy. The study provides a pluralist tool kit for studying the economy, in a manner that involves both political analysis and a consideration of philosophical ideas about knowledge and justice. Students also employ elements of this tool kit to analyse a particular event, issue or public policy challenge. The material is presented in an intuitive and comparative manner.
