Subject outline
In this subject you will learn the stages of adult development, examine and critique the diagnosis of a range of mental health disorders according to the DSM 5, and develop skills in art therapy assessment appropriate to these populations. You will also develop an awareness of the complexities of working with clients from cross-cultural backgrounds and with diverse values. You will gain an understanding of the psycho-bio-social factors involved in wellbeing, mental health and ill health amongst adult populations. You will also demonstrate knowledge and increased art therapy skills in working with diverse populations of adults.

- Incorporate and apply elements of a broad model of adult mental health into reflections on art therapy with adults in both verbal and written form.
02. Describe variances in definitions and perspectives of mental ill health in light of cross cultural elements.
- Activities:
- Analyse how cross cultural awareness informs the approach to art therapy assessment and treatment with one particular adult population.
03. Utilise and critique the use of art therapy across a range of adult populations based on academic and practical learning.

- Review, analyse and critique the assessment and treatment of one specific art therapy adult population in verbal and written form.
04. Identify key elements in assessment of adults and in particular using art therapy assessment tools.

- Practice and critique art therapy assessment tools in class activities.
05. Communicate clinical material effectively in both written and oral form both individually and as a member of a group.
- Activities:
- Present a review of art therapy with a clinical population according to the literature.
06. Demonstrate an ability to work independently and in small groups to report on findings in an art therapy assignment.
- Activities:
- Collaborate and prioritise workload according to the project design of a group for assessment.
