Subject outline

This subject introduces students to the theories, practices and procedures of coronial law and forensic medicine in Australia. It will investigate the distinctive roles played by the coroner, forensic pathologist, police officer and medical practitioner during the death investigation process. It will also analyse how coronial institutions can be reformed to produce optimal outcomes for society. Students may explore topics such as coronial architecture and mortuary spaces, the relationship between postmortem examinations and organ donation and coronial inquests on deaths in custody.
