This subject examines the speech sounds of world's languages. Students will learn how to describe and analyse language sounds. The subject is practical in focus with lots of application of theory to data. Topics covered include the production of sounds, prosody, speech perception and accents in World Englishes.

01. Describe language sounds with appropriate terminology, perceive and produce differences in language sounds and have a working familiarity with the International Phonetic Alphabet, as evidenced in the completion of activities utilizing these skills.
