This subject addresses La Trobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential. Innovation and Entrepreneurship is about using your creativity to generate new ideas, understand and solve complex problems and thrive in a fast-changing world.

Subject outline

This community-based subject has an entry qualification. Employers of graduates, whatever the industry or community sector, want people who can research in teams, who can communicate well, and who can then shape and implement policies. This subject puts all this into practice. You work in small teams on a policy challenge, either as received from La Trobe, or from a client. Under strict protocols mandated by the subject, and only after prior approval is given by the coordinator of the subject, each student group will contact their client with a view to presenting, or reporting on, their response to the challenge. Student groups first meet in classroom simulations at La Trobe, and eventually present at, or report to, a real client. Working in a team of four, with explicit lines of individual responsibility and mutual accountability, students in this subject address the La Trobe Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential by extending their skills of research, discussion, presentation and analysis, focusing on evidence-based policy options and recommendations.
