Subject outline
The subject enables you to go beyond the university to start to make a difference, or to be a difference. Ordinarily following on from HUS2ACT or HUM2SLC, this subject offers you opportunities to implement, under supervision, a plan to address in the community beyond the university the topic you identified in HUS2ACT or HUM2SLC. Actual community action may only commence, after prior approval is given by the subject coordinator. You can approach the subject from any theoretical or applied perspective. As co-authors of this subject, you determine the issue mattering to you and you suggest ways of bringing it to public attention. Through the case-based learning in this subject, students practise advocating for and defending their analyses, as well as practising communicating persuasively in public settings. This subject also explores social, political and cultural contexts that shape public engagement with change and activism. You apply your skills to a project of constructive community activism and engagement. You will also assess the effectiveness of what you said and did.

Prerequisites Must be in penultimate year of study, have passed HUM2SLC or HUS2ACT, have a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60, or else by subject coordinator#s approval after submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI).
