Subject outline

Business intelligence (BI) is a broad category of applications and technologies for gathering, storing, analysing data, and providing access to decision-making information to business managers in a range of business areas like accounting, finance, human resources, sales and marketing. OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing) systems, as a means of providing BI are discussed. Students are introduced to intelligent data mining technologies and how they are used for finding useful information in enterprise information systems as well as analysis of patterns in data stored in databases. An emphasis is placed on business applications of data mining in areas like retail, banking and finance. A business intelligence tool will also be used to provide hands-on experience to the students.
