Subject outline

This subject introduces students to the conceptual framework of social media policy and law in Australia. Students will examine the theories, policies and principles of the regulation of social media in the digital age. Topics may include the laws of defamation, censorship and freedom of speech, ideas of open justice and contempt of court, the relationship between privacy law and social networking and the regulation of social media advertising. In addition, students will examine comparative jurisdictions and place the regulation of social media in its social, cultural and economic context.
