Subject outline

Students investigate concepts of integrated curriculum for young children. They examine the idea that integrated curriculum is an educational approach that prepares children for lifelong learning, by looking at education as a process for developing abilities required for life. Key features of integrated curriculum are investigated. Some of these ideas are interdisciplinary, emphasis on projects; play based learning, relationships among concepts, 'big ideas' as organising principles, rich tasks, flexible schedules and flexible student groupings. Practical aspects of implementing an integrated curriculum approach are considered.
