Subject outline

What happens to a text when it grows up and leaves home? In this subject we explore canonical texts' transformational encounters with new places, people and politics. In tracking the fates of texts over time, we will investigate ideas like intertextuality, genre, and the relationship between literature and cultural change. Students meet a range of texts from different genres and periods and explore different approaches to their critical analysis.
