Subject outline
This subject provides insight into the inner-workings of various cultural and arts-related industries, including (but not limited to) music, film and television - industries that almost everyone interacts with, and of immense broad-based intuitive appeal. Students will be given an understanding of the 'business' behind the camera and the recording studio, and will be able to appreciate apparent anomalies in these industries with the use of economic tools to rationalise them. Students will also be able to comprehend the specificities and nuances of the economics of arts and culture in relation to not only other leisure-based industries, but also other non-related industries. This subject is also an option for students in other faculties (eg. arts, journalism) that wish to include some economics studies in their degrees.
