Subject outline
Students completing this twelve week, 15 credit point subject will critically examine current research findings in neurosciences and adult neurological rehabilition to explore the challenge of translating evidence into contemporary practice. Opportunities for investigation of current evidence across state of the art topics in neurological rehabilitation. The focus of study will be on assessment and intervention to address changes in physical and cognitive capacities, as well as occupational performance for a range of neurological conditions. Students will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect upon enablers and barriers to applying evidence-based practice in contemporary practice settings with clients with neurological conditions.

01. Learners will gain advanced knowledge to inform their critical thinking and clinical reasoning regarding evidence-based approaches assessment and intervention practices in specific areas of occupational therapy practice
- Activities:
- Online discussion forum. Use of synchronous tutorials (Collaborate)- offer 1 per topic Mini online lectures, Podcasts (field experts, lecturers). Directed reading of key articles on key topics, with expectation to discuss on forum ( 4- 5 topics throughout subject)
02. Analyse critically and reflect upon the barriers and enablers to translating evidenced based interventions within contempory clinical practice.
- Activities:
- Online discussion forum- peer led, plus reflective contributions. Use of synchronous tutorials (Collaborate)- offer 1 per topic. Focus of essay topic
03. Learners will research, appraise, analyse critically and synthesise evidence for selected interventions used in their current clinical practice.
- Activities:
- Annotated bibliography presented to peers. Essay. Focus of translation of evidence to practice within Online discussion forums- synchronus and asynchronus; and collaborate tutorial sessions related to specific topics related to neurological rehabilitation.
