This subject will enable nursing and midwifery students to undertake nursing and/or midwifery learning experience in Australia or overseas, in their own field of practice, in diverse clinical contexts. Students will participate in a clinical or other international learning experience that will allow them to gain experience and knowledge of nursing and/or midwifery in a culturally and professionally new environment. This subject is also available for International nursing and midwifery students undertaking a clinical or international learning experience in Australia.

- Activities:
- Demonstrate - basic communication skills in unfamiliar situations in a culturally sensitive way. Negotiate, collaborate and consult with colleagues and peers as required. Maintain accurate and appropriate documentation as required in an appropriate timeframe.
02. Demonstrate organisation, time management skills and a professional attitude/orientation at all times.
- Activities:
- Attend and participate in clinical placement and/or learning experience as scheduled.
03. Identify the practice of your profession in a range of contexts and apply the policy, procedures and guidelines of that service within the context of the experience.

- Participate in the international experience and critically reflect on the role of a Registered Nurse/Midwife in that context.
04. Reflect on the impact of this context and cultural experience on your developing professional identity.
- Activities:
- Identify your own strengths and weaknesses and reflect on your own performance against personal learning goals and appropriate standards of performance, and work towards addressing these. Demonstrate an ability to adapt your own performance in response to self-evaluation. Actively seek to engage in opportunities to update and broaden your own knowledge and skills in response to personal learning goal. Examine the similarities and differences in professional practice in relation to the respective Codes of Conduct and Ethics between Australia and the location of the international experience.
05. Compare the service delivery model with the Australian service delivery model in your field of practice taking into account cultural differences.
- Activities:
- Explore the model through your own practice, engagement with colleagues and research of that Government's/Institution's Charter for service delivery where possible. Identify the professional constraints and benefits of this service delivery model compared with the Australian model. Examine the broader health care system in this environment and the impact of cultural practices on the model of health care and professional practice. Identify the facilitators and barriers that impact on the health care of individuals and communities in this particular context.
