Subject outline

This subject provides an introduction to core topics and debates in the study of health law and regulation in Australia. It adopts a framework-approach to analysing the relationship between law and health, taking account of ethical, social, cultural, political and rights-based contexts. Topics covered include the regulatory framework of the Australian health system;regulating health professionals; regulating patient safety and redress; consent to, and refusal of, medical treatment; substituted decision-making, medical negligence; and confidentiality, privacy and access to information. Additional topics to be covered may include law and reproduction and law at the end of life.
