In this subject, students are introduced to modern operating systems their major components. Students will learn these concepts by working on an operating system. Process and memory management, file systems, system management and several other concepts are also covered.

01. Analyse the architectures, functions and roles of an operating system in a computer.
- Activities:
- Online chapters from the prescribed textbook will form the core learning. Webinars will be used to engage the students in a broader discussion on how different operating systems implement these core functions and roles
02. Analyse the various components of an operating system and their relevance to manage the different resources in a computer system.
- Activities:
- Online chapters from the prescribed textbook will form the core learning. Lectures and webinars will be used as the core learning activity to demonstrate various components of an operating system
03. Compare and contrast the different types of operating systems and their features using real-world scenarios.
- Activities:
- Online chapters from the prescribed textbook will form the core learning. Students will be expected to report on the various operating system types
04. Install, configure and troubleshoot an operating system to meet business requirements.
- Activities:
- Students will be expected to install (e.g. on a virtual machine) an operating system. Webinars and presentations will be used as the core learning activity to demonstrate how the command-line interface can be efficiently used. Online chapters from the prescribed textbook will form the core learning. Students will be expected to perform practical learning activities on an operating system.
05. Design and Use an operating system to create batch files implement operating system security and management to improve the overall system performance.
- Activities:
- Webinars and presentations will be used as the core learning activity system security and management. Several practical activities will be provided enabling students to learn basic skills
