Credit points: 15
Subject outline
Civil engineering encompasses a diversity of specialty sub-disciplines, the major ones of which are: structural, water resources, environmental, construction, transportation, and geotechnical engineering. Within Australia, there are numerous civil engineering past and present projects that played a pivotal role in the development of the nation as it is today. In this unit students will investigate the role of the engineer in a key Australian project, the infrastructure and workforce the engineer had to work with, and the implications that the completion of the project had on the affected communities. The unit is designed around project-based learning through which the student will develop a range of generic skills together with experience in complex problem solving and an appreciation of the complete cycle of a project.
