Subject outline

This subject runs concurrently with the undergraduate course and is offered as the first part of a two-year program in third and fourth years, leading to the award of a honours degree. This subject introduces students to the principles of conducting research which is of relevance to physiotherapy. Each student works closely with a supervisor who guides the development of a research project. In addition, students attend regular lectures, seminars and laboratory sessions in which the theoretical and pragmatic aspects of conducting research are discussed. Topics include writing skills for literature reviews, the use of computers in research and the application of principles of research design as learnt in PHE1RMH and PHE2RMH. Emphasis is placed on encouraging the student to apply principles of critical analysis to the theory and practice of research.
