Subject outline

In this subject students are introduced to the principles of public and primary health care in their social, political and economic contexts. Building on the knowledge of social determinants from PHE1SDH, students develop a deeper understanding of behavioural, environmental, sociocultural, political and organisationsl factors that promote or comprise health. Students will also examine the strategies used in public health practice, in the context of public health frameworks, with a particular focus on community-based approaches to health enhancement.

Prerequisites If the student is enrolled in HBOHSB Bachelor of Oral Health Sciences HBHS B Health Sci or HBHSB B Health Sci or HZHSID Health Sci/Intl Dev or HZHSB Health Sci/Bus or AZAHS Arts/Health Sci then must have passed HLT1PHW and PHE1SDH or be enrolled in EVEDB Bachelor of Education or HZHSDD B Dent/Mstr Dent. All other students require coordinator's approval.
