Compulsory study periods

The academic year is divided into several study periods, including both compulsory and non-compulsory study periods. It is important to be aware of the compulsory study periods for your course. Generally, international student visa holders need to be enrolled in 120 credit points each academic year.

Compulsory Study Periods

  • Semesters 1 and 2: These are compulsory for most international students. You must be enrolled in subjects during semesters to comply with your student visa conditions.
  • Term-based courses: If your course is term-based, please refer to the Handbook and enrol as per your course structure requirements. Please note not all terms are compulsory, depending on your course. If required, please contact a Student Advisor for advice.

Non-Compulsory Study Period

  • Summer Semester/Term 6: This is not a compulsory study period unless you commence your course in Summer or Term 6. In this case, Summer/Term 6 is a compulsory study period.

Enrolment Requirements

  • Face-to-face Enrolment: You must be enrolled in at least one face-to-face subject in each compulsory study period.
  • Full-Time Enrolment: If you have not maintained a full-time enrolment throughout the compulsory study periods, please contact a Student Advisor to create a plan to finish your course by your CoE end date.
