Program types

Short term partner programs

Short term partner programs are available through La Trobe’s partner universities and approved hosts. These programs are available as either an exchange or study abroad program.

  • Exchange: You pay tuition to La Trobe as per usual
  • Study Abroad: You pay tuition directly to the partner university or approved host

Check the Programs Portal to see which programs are offered as exchange or study abroad.

Academic-led study tour

Academic-led study tour programs are intensive two to four-week group study tours led by La Trobe academic staff. You'll enrol in a La Trobe subject that is either partly or entirely delivered on the study tour.

Explore upcoming programs on the Programs Portal. Speak to your course coordinator about any future programs that your School plans to offer that may not yet be listed on the Programs Portal.

Short-term Partner Program Information

Short-term partner programs are usually listed about six months before they start.

If a program was offered previously, there is no guarantee it will be offered again. This can be due to a range of reasons, such as changes by partner universities or adjustments to La Trobe’s academic calendar.

To stay up to date with new programs, deadlines, and events, join our mailing list.

Deadlines vary by host university or provider. Check the Programs Portal for your selected program and allow enough time to complete all application steps.

Some programs have limited places and may close early if they fill up.

You can only apply for one program at a time.

Do not apply for programs that overlap or run at the same time.

No. Only short-term partner study programs programs listed in the portal are eligible for academic credit towards your degree.

Programs not listed are also not eligible for La Trobe funding, OS-HELP loans, or complimentary La Trobe travel insurance.

If you complete your final subject overseas, your attendance at a graduation ceremony may be delayed due to the timing of your host university's release of results. If this happens, you will need to attend the next available ceremony.

Under Australia Government OS-HELP rules, you will not be eligible for an OS-HELP loan for your final subject.

Do not pay for any program-related costs, including flights, accommodation, or program fees, until you have:

  • received program approval and acceptance from La Trobe, including confirmation of credit transfer
  • received an acceptance notification from your host university or provider
  • obtained a visa, if required

While waiting for approval, you can start planning and researching your overseas study, but do not make any payments until your participation is officially confirmed.
