Learning Management System (LMS)

The LMS is an online learning environment that allows you to locate learning materials and activities related to your studies from any location with internet access.

Our Learning Management System (LMS) is Moodle. This system may be referred to as the 'LMS' or as 'Moodle'. It is the same system.

You will log into the LMS with your student username (12345678@students.ltu.edu.au) and your password.

Accessing the LMS

To gain access to the LMS, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the LMS log in page.
  2. Login using your student username and password.
  3. Once you have logged in a list of your available LMS subjects will be shown.

It may take 24 to 48 hours after enrolment for your subjects to appear in the LMS. However, subjects are typically published two weeks before classes begin, so they may not be visible until closer to the start of semester.

If you have forgotten your password please contact us.

FAQ

There could be many reasons why you can’t log in. The most common reasons are:

  • Using the incorrect username format.
  • Forgotten password.
  • Entering your password incorrectly.
  • Using an unsupported browser (e.g. Safari or Internet Explorer).
  • Recently accepting your offer.

Some other things to check include:

  • If you have just accepted your offer on StudentOnline you wont be able to access the LMS for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Passwords are case sensitive, check that caps lock is turned off.
  • Check your Statement of Account (through StudentOnLine) to ensure that you are correctly enrolled in at least one subject.

If you’ve just accepted your offer, your LMS (Moodle) account may not be active yet. It can take up to 24 to 48 hours for your access to be set up after accepting your offer in StudentOnLine.

Please try logging in again later. If the issue continues after 48 hours, contact Student IT Support for help.

At La Trobe university, you will have a:

  • Student id number (e.g. 12345678)
  • Student username (e.g. 12345678@students.ltu.edu.au)
  • Student email address (e.g. 12345678@students.latrobe.edu.au)

This can be a bit confusing so we have a helpful video that will explain the difference between these and outlines when to use them.

It can take up to 24 hours after enrolment for subjects to appear in the LMS.

Log into StudentOnLine to confirm your enrolment in the subject and verify with your lecturer if LMS access is required.

If you still cannot see your subject, try these steps to check if it is hidden:

  1. Log in to the LMS.
  2. Scroll down to the Subject Overview block.
  3. Make sure the filter on the left is set to All (not In ProgressStarred, or Removed from View).

If your subjects still haven’t appeared after 24 to 48 hours, they may not be open yet. Please contact your Subject Coordinator for more information about the access dates.

Watch: Fix Hidden Subjects

Subjects in the LMS are scheduled to close after a set completion date. These timeframes are determined by the Subject Coordinator and can vary between subjects. Most subjects will close after final grades are released, but some may remain open longer.

Before your final grade is released, we recommend backing up any content you wish to keep—this includes downloadable files, graded assessment tasks, and other important information.

Please note: Student IT Support cannot reopen access to closed subjects. If you need access after a subject has closed, you’ll need to contact the Subject Coordinator directly. Access is granted at their discretion.

If you intend to or have already uploaded your own photo to the LMS, it will be overwritten with the official La Trobe student ID photo.

By default, your photo will be visible only to you and to the lecturers and tutors of your subjects. You will have the option of making your photo public and replacing it should you wish to do so.

You can update your profile photo by following these steps:

  1. Log into the LMS.
  2. Click your profile photo in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Profile.
  4. Next to User Details, click Edit Profile.
  5. Scroll down to User Picture and upload the photo you would like to use.
  6. Save your changes.
