Seeking a review

If your Special Consideration application was unsuccessful, you may seek a review of the decision if you have grounds to believe that the decision was not made in accordance with the Assessment Procedure - Adjustments (including Special Consideration).

You may seek a review of:

  • The assessment of your eligibility
  • The outcome provided by the relevant Subject Coordinator

You have 5 calendar days from the date you were advised of your unsuccessful Special Consideration application to submit your request for review.

It is important that you submit further supporting documentation or your application will be deemed unsuccessful.

If the decision is in relation to your eligibility for Special Consideration, you can request a review by:

  1. Ensure that your student, course and subject details are up to date in StudentOnLine.
  2. Go to Submit or review application.
  3. Choose your request type.
  4. Select ‘Request a review of an Assessment Adjustment outcome’ in the webform.
  5. Enter assessment details and original due date.
  6. Select the reference number of the original assessment adjustment form.
  7. Complete statement why you believe elements of the Assessment Procedure – Adjustments (including Special Consideration) were not followed.
  8. Attached any supporting documentation that was not available at the time of original application.
  9. Agree to declaration and submit your application for review.

Request a review

If the decision is in relation to the determination of an outcome by the relevant Subject Coordinator, you may seek a review in person or in writing from the Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching of the school that owns the subject.

FAQs

Applications for Special Consideration and Short Extensions of Time submitted after the due date of the assessment are considered late.

Applications after this time can only be submitted as Special Consideration, and you are required to provide evidence for the exceptional circumstances that prevented you from applying on time.

Students with a LAP can apply for a Short Extension of Time after the original due date, providing the application is submitted within 7 calendar days of the original due date of the assessment. The extension granted will be applied from the original due date (e.g. an application that is submitted 5 calendar days after the original due date will be granted a 2 calendar day extension). This does not apply to late Special Consideration applications.

Exceptional circumstances must have occurred during the period in which an application would normally be made, be accompanied by evidence, and are limited to:

  • medical incapacitation or hospitalisation
  • an emergency event, such as an accident
  • death of a close family member
  • an exacerbation of a condition provided for in a LAP

Applications for Special Consideration cannot be accepted where the results for a subject have already been released.

The review team will assess your application and provide an outcome via your student email within five (5) business days.

  • Successful Outcome (Review upheld): Your application is now eligible for consideration and an appropriate outcome will be decided by your school.
  • Unsuccessful Outcome (Review dismissed): Your application was not successful and the original special consideration decision is unchanged. Information about how to seek a further review from the University Ombudsman, if you are still dissatisfied with the decision, will be provided with your advice of outcome.
