Microsoft 365 is available to our students, providing access to essential tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Email

  • 50GB email quota
  • La Trobe emails can only be accessed using Outlook
  • La Trobe contacts will be automatically available in your student email through searching using the Outlook search bar

Office Pro Plus

Office Pro Plus is available for free while you're studying at La Trobe. You can install it on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 mobile devices (15 devices total).

The suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive, and other Microsoft 365 apps.

OneDrive for business

  • 5TB storage on OneDrive for Business
  • Currently a single file size limit of 2GB and a file/folder limit of 20,000
  • OneDrive for Business client available for PC's, Mac's, iOS and Android devices
  • Use this system to share files (you control the access)
  • Multiple people can edit a document at the same time.

Download Office Pro Plus

Office Pro Plus can be downloaded and installed on your PC or Mac for free.

  1. Login to Microsoft 365 using your student account
  2. Click 'Install Office' > 'Office 365 apps' at the top-right of the dashboard to begin downloading the installer
  3. Run the installer after it completes downloading
  4. The installer will automatically install all Office apps onto your PC (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more).

You can install office apps individually on Android and iOS.

iOS (iPhone/iPad)

Install Office apps from the App Store individually by searching for the app (e.g.  Microsoft Word).

Android

Install Office apps from the Google Play Store by searching for the app (e.g . Microsoft Word).

Office apps are also available for use in a supported web browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox).

Some features of Office apps that are available in the desktop applications are not available in the web version. We normally recommend installing Office Apps on your computer if it is compatible.

You can access Office apps from the apps dashboard.

FAQ

Your La Trobe email address and log in username are not the same. The difference is defined below. Ensure when logging in to enter the username format.

If you already have a purchased copy of Microsoft Office installed on your computer, installing Office Pro Plus will remove the version currently installed.

Please ensure that you keep your own purchased media as you may want to re-use it for other purposes.

To export your student emails to a single Outlook data file (.pst)(or .olm for MacOS) you must use the Outlook Desktop app. The export function is not available in Outlook Web.

Export Using Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook, click File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
  2. Select 'Export to a file' > 'Outlook Data File (.pst)'.
  3. Select the top-most option (12345678@students.ltu.edu.au) if you'd like to export your entire email
  4. Ensure the 'include subfolders' option is checked.
  5. Choose a location and name for your backup file, and then select Finish.

Export Using Outlook for MacOS

  1. Open Outlook, click Tools > Export.
  2. Select the items you'd like to export and click Continue.
  3. Navigate to a location to save the exported file
  4. Click Save.
  5. Once the export has completed, click Finish.

To import your student emails from an Outlook data file (.pst) (or .olm for MacOS) you must use an email application. The following instructions will be for Microsoft Outlook.

Importing Using Outlook for Windows

  1. Open Outlook, click File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
  2. Select 'Import from another program or file' > Next.
  3. Select Outlook Data File (.pst) > Next.
  4. There will be options to choose regarding what to do with duplicate emails. If you aren't sure, just click Next.
  5. Select the location in Outlook to Import the file into (e.g another Mailbox you have already added to Outlook)
  6. Click Finish.

Importing Using Outlook for MacOS

  1. Open Outlook, click Tools > Import > Outlook for Mac archive (.olm) (or .pst if importing from a Windows backup) > Continue
  2. Select the file to import from your Mac and click Import.
  3. Imported items will appear on the navigation panes (Mail, Calendar, People, Tasks, Notes) under 'On My Computer'.

You can activate Microsoft on five devices at the same time.

This includes any combination of PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones. If you'd like to sign out of a device, you can do so from the Microsoft 365 portal.

Managing Devices

You can sign out of your student account on all devices by navigating to your Microsoft 365 profile and clicking 'Sign out everywhere' under your profile name.

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student username and password if prompted to sign in
  3. Click sign in
  4. Click your profile in the bottom left corner
  5. Click view account
  6. Click Office apps on the left side bar
  7. Click the downward arrow next to 'Devices'
  8. Locate the installation you wish to deactivate
  9. Click sign out

Windows

Common issues with the Windows Microsoft Apps can be resolved by running a repair of the installation.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Apps
  3. Locate Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise and click the 3 dots next to the name
  4. Select Modify
  5. Select Yes at the pop up
  6. You will be presented with an option to run a Quick or Full repair.
    Note: You may need to attempt both repairs
  7. After the repair is complete, restart your PC and try launching one of the apps again.

MacOS

Common issues with the MacOS Microsoft Apps can be resolved by running the Office License Removal Tool.

The Tool will remove the Microsoft Apps license files on your Mac and will allow you to re-sign in using your La Trobe account to activate the applications.

If you are using your own personal license for installation of Microsoft Apps, we do not recommend using this tool.
