Subject outline

In this subject, students will examine disorders which may be experienced by individuals over the life-span, emphasising the basic pathological processes that underlie diseases and the risk factors and contributing causes of disorders. Specifically, general pathological processes will be discussed with emphasis on disturbed function, adaptation to injury, inflammation, tissue healing, immunological disorders, neoplasia, fluid imbalance, thrombosis, embolism and vascular disorders. In addition to general pathological processes, emphasis will be given to relevant disorders of the respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, skeletal and nervous systems. A variety of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials, student directed sessions and discipline-related workshops will be used in this subject.
