Subject outline
In this subject students will explore relationships between competency-based education, vocational training, VET in schools programs, and teaching to achieve stated outcomes. Students will develop skills to enable them to make informed decisions about teaching and learning strategies and individual differences between learners will be addressed. Students will plan and implement appropriate strategies to cater for these differences. Practical and theoretical links between VET in schools curriculum and the individual trade knowledge, experience and skills of the students will be explored.

01. Apply theories of activity-based learning and experiential learning in specialised learning contexts.
- Activities:
- Workshop activities where students identify critical elements of selected learning activities and modes of knowledge.
02. Critique educational concepts associated with VET practice;
- Activities:
- Identify and discuss learner attributes for VET contexts and participate in group presentations - workshops.
03. Make conceptual links between a number of models of teaching and the practice of teaching;
- Activities:
- Select learning activities most suitable to individual VET contexts; justify choices based on links to set-text/literature.
04. Address the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes that pertain to particular disciplines, methods or trades;
- Activities:
- Students explore the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of learning (including taxonomies) and the relationship of their specialist content knowledge with stages of learner development.
05. Participate in group activities that encourage collaborative practice between teachers in specialised educational context/s of technical and vocational education;
- Activities:
- Group-based workshop activities that focus on students interrogating and identifying modes of teaching and learning best suited to their professional context.
06. Engage with academic writing as a professional practice for their world of work.
- Activities:
- Assessments 1 & 3 include review of student submissions as research-informed, professional communication.
