ACUTE CARE B
NSG2ACB
2014
Credit points: 30
Subject outline
In this subject students will further develop skills, knowledge and ability in techniques when caring for a person experiencing an acute medical illness. Issues surrounding hospitalisation and discharge will be emphasised. Students will use evidence based reasoning skills to extend their understanding of the effect of this acute episode of illness on areas such as nutritional status and elimination, metabolism and endocrine function, pain management and sleep; and will investigate the use of technology in acute health care. By application of the nursing process to individualise care students will enhance their focused health assessment skills. Enquiry activities that deal with Victorian health priority areas, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and asthma, will be used to integrate the study of the biopsychosocial and mental health content.
