Subject outline
In this subject students will gain an understanding of the operation of the Australian income tax system. On completion of this unit, students should be able to understand the operation of the income tax legislation, recognise and apply the principles used by the courts to determine whether an amount is included in assessable income, or is an allowable deduction. Students should understand the taxation of capital gains and fringe benefits and identify the income of tax implications arising from the use of taxable entities such as partnerships and trusts. Students should gain an understanding of the administrative aspects of taxation and the evaluation of taxable income and tax payable for all types of taxable entities.
