Reset password
If you need to reset your La Trobe password, there are several options available. Follow the steps to regain access to your account securely.
Password Reset Methods
Pre-Requisites
- You have your Microsoft Authenticator configured for your student account.
- You are using a computer that has internet access.
Instructions
- Navigate to the password reset portal
- Sign in using your student details (e.g. 12345678@students.ltu.edu.au).
- Select 'Enter a code from my authenticator app' on the left hand side
- Open your Microsoft Authenticator application on your mobile device
- Select your La Trobe accounts on the application
- Type the 6 digit number displaying in your authenticator application into the webpage on your computer.
- Select Next
- Enter a new password into the New Password field.
- Re-enter your new password in the 'Confirm New Password' field.
- Click 'Finish'.

- You are using a computer that has internet access.

- Navigate to the Microsoft password portal.
- Sign in using your student details (e.g. 12345678@students.ltu.edu.au).
- Enter a new password into the New Password field.
- Re-enter your new password in the 'Confirm New Password' field.
- Click 'Submit'.
Password guidelines
- Must be at least 12 characters long
- Must use at least 1 uppercase letter (A, B, C, D, E ...)
- Must use at least 1 lowercase letter (a, b, c, d, e ...)
- Must use at least 1 number (1, 2, 3, 4, ...)
- Must use at least 1 symbol (!, @, # ...)
Your password cannot include:
- Any passwords you have used before
- Numbers from your date of birth
- 3 or more consecutive letters from your full name
- For example, if your name is John Paul Smith, you can’t use joh, pau, or smi
- Common or simple words such as "hello" or "password"
FAQ
When you change or reset your password you are changing your password for all of the systems you log into with your La Trobe accounts. Such as the LMS, StudentOnline, Student Emails and many more.
Once you have successfully changed your password you will need to use your new password to access these systems.
If you cannot use one of the methods outlined above to reset your password you will need to contact Student IT Support.
Please note that we’re unable to reset your password via email or chat, as we need to verify your identity over a phone call.
