SWOTVAC (Study Without Teaching Vacation) is a break before the final assessment period to help you revise and prepare. You usually won’t have classes in this time, although this can vary depending on your course.
What is the final assessment period?
The final assessment period is the scheduled time at the end of each study period when your major assessments take place, including exams. Not all subjects have exams – some have more heavily weighted assessment tasks instead.
Check your subject outline and exam timetable early to know what’s due and when.
Overdue fees or not completing AIM can lead to sanctions that might stop you viewing your grades. Check if you have a sanction on StudentOnLine and find out what to do next.
If you’re on a student visa, your results affect whether you can finish your course within the timeframe in your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and meet visa requirements. We’re here to help if you’re worried.
If your results weren’t what you hoped for, a Student Advisor can help you identify challenges, explore options, and create a plan to move ahead with confidence. Support is free and personalised, so you don’t have to figure it out alone.
Result release can bring up all kinds of feelings, and you don’t have to handle them alone. Our Wellbeing Team is here to help you process emotions and find balance. Reach out for free, confidential support whenever you need it.
Enrol in your subjects for the next study period before your break. Early re-enrolment means you can relax knowing everything is sorted and avoid last-minute enrolment stress later.
Add important dates like timetable releases and class start times to your calendar now. Get organised before your next study period to set yourself up for success.

Options if you’re thinking about a change
We know things can change. Whether you want to transfer courses or are considering taking a break from your course, chat to your Student Advisor to see what you can do.
If you want a change, your options are:
Transfer your course – If your current course isn’t the right fit, you can apply to switch to another course or study the same one at a different La Trobe campus.
Take a break from your course – You may be able to take up to 12 months off. Check how this affects your course and how to apply for a Leave of Absence.
Withdraw from your course – Learn how the process works and check if an Alternative Exit is available. This option could let you finish early with a different qualification.
