This subject provides an introduction to applied statistics. It introduces students to the basic applied statistical methods used in psychology, biology, medicine, health, engineering, business, sociology and arts. The three main areas of study are descriptive statistics, probability distributions and statistical inference. The use of the SPSS statistical computing package is an integral part of the subject.

01. Identify, calculate and interpret appropriate numerical and graphical summaries for univariate and bivariate data.
- Activities:
- Directed Readings 1 and 2: This consists of readings from the prescribed textbook; and online video clips that (i) explain the readings and (ii) cover practical examples using SPSS. Aplia Online Quizzes 1 and 2: This learning activity contains conceptual problems that are based on the material covered in the directed readings 1 and 2, respectively. Students learn from their mistakes by receiving detailed feedback from each incorrect answer. Assignment 1: Consists of 3 short answer questions that involve SPSS, calculations and written conclusions.
