Subject outline

In this subject students are introduced to clinical practice and will incorporate knowledge gained in their earlier academic years with diagnostic and clinical skills. Under clinical supervision, students will provide treatment to clients attending the University's on-site Podiatry clinic (for the Bundoora instance), or an external agency (Bendigo instance). Further, students begin to focus on the theory, prescription and construction of non-cast foot orthoses.

Prerequisites Must have passed all subjects from (HBS2ALF, HBS2PAT, HLT2IEP, MIC2MMP, HBS3PCY, HBS3NPM, POD3PPB). Must be enrolled in one of the following courses: HZHPOD, HZHPDB, HZHPDW, HZHPDM, HZHPDS - Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Podiatric Practice. Or admission in HMPOD, HMPODB - Master of Podiatric Practice.

Co-requisites Must be enrolled in POD4PAM, POD4CBP, POD4PAS at the same time.

03. Establish a list of differential diagnoses based on examinations conducted for a given client.

04. Develop a treatment plan for a given client.

Completion of reflective journal.

06. Be competent and safe in the use of equipment necessary for the manufacture and modification of foot inserts.

Activities:
Construction of a direct moulded non-cast EVA orthotic. Competency checklists. Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

07. Construct a non-cast direct moulded Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foot orthotic and modify a prefabricated orthotic.
