Subject outline

In this subject, students will be introduced to the cellular basis of life. The histology component will include the study of epithelial, cnnnective, nervous and muscular tissues and also selected organ systems - skin, vascular and specific dental histology. The anatomy component will mainly include the study of head and neck anatomy but will also introduce students to body cavities and the major organ systems that lie within these visceral cavities. Principles of anatomy will be introduced and applied to the anatomy of the head and neck relevant for dentistry. Lectures are supported by practical classes, which will include the examination of appropriate cadaver and radiographic materials and computer aided learning activities.
