What is OneDrive for Business?

OneDrive for Business provides you with 5TB of storage for you to manage student files. You can then access and share them from your phone, tablet, and computer.

Note: There is a maximum file size limit of 2GB and a file/folder count limit of 20,000 files.

How do I access OneDrive for Business?

Access OneDrive for Business from your browser

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. Tick Keep me signed in.
    Note: Ticking the "Keep me signed in" check-box ensures that you don't need to enter your email address each time you visit the page.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Click OneDrive.

Access OneDrive for Business from your smartphone

To access OneDrive on your smartphone you will need to install the OneDrive app from the relevant app store.

Can I sync my OneDrive for Business files with my personally owned computer?

Yes, you can sync your OneDrive for Business data with your personally owned Windows or Mac computer using the OneDrive for Business application.

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. Tick Keep me signed in.
    Note: Ticking the "Keep me signed in" check-box ensures that you don't need to enter your email address each time you visit the page.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Click OneDrive.
  6. Click Sync.
  7. Click Get the OneDrive for Business app that's right for me.
  8. Select your preferred language.
  9. Click Install.
  10. Once the install has completed, return to the Office 365 portal.
  11. Click OneDrive.
  12. Click Sync.
  13. Click Sync now.
  14. If prompted, select Microsoft OneDrive for Business and set it as the default application.

Can I sync my OneDrive for Business files with a La Trobe University student computer?

On a La Trobe University student computer, use the Web version of OneDrive (https://portal.office.com).

Can I edit my files online?

Yes, you can edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents using Office Online.

Can I share my files with individuals outside La Trobe University?

Yes, you can share your files with individuals inside and outside of La Trobe University.

How do I share my Office 365 documents?

Share a file from a browser

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. Tick Keep me signed in.
    Note: Ticking the "Keep me signed in" check-box ensures that you don't need to enter your email address each time you visit the page.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Click OneDrive.
  6. Locate the file you wish to share and click the ... (three-dot menu icon) to the right of the file.
  7. Click Share.
  8. Enter the email address(s) for the individual(s) you wish to share the file with and click Share.

The individual(s) you have shared the file with will receive an email notification.

Note: Once you have shared a file or folder, the only way to un-share it is to go back to the file or folder you shared and remove the sharing.

How do I backup my OneDrive for Business if I am leaving La Trobe University?

You can download files and folders from OneDrive to your computer with just a few clicks. Here's how:

  1. Log into office365.latrobe.edu.au
  2. Click the 'OneDrive' tile (top-left)
  3. Select one or all the files/folders by clicking on the circular boxes next to them
  4. Towards the top of the page click 'Download'
