Students as Partners Framework

The Students as Partners Framework demonstrates our commitment to building collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships between students and staff. Co-designed with students in 2024, the Framework guides how we work together to create a more inclusive, innovative and student-focused university.

Our six priority areas

Chosen by you, our six priority areas are student representation, student leadership, volunteering, peer support, student voice, and the La Trobe University Student Council. Embedded in the framework, our priorities ensure you have a meaningful role in enhancing your university experience.

Our values

The Framework is guided by five essential core values identified by you, that you have told us are important to foster meaningful collaborations with the University. Our core values are:

Community

All students, regardless of background or ability, are empowered to contribute, shaping a university experience that reflects and respects every voice.

Collaboration

We promote open-mindedness, active listening and mutual respect. Students and staff participate in reciprocal learning, co-creating a university experience based on a shared commitment to continuous improvement.

Growth

You have the opportunity to expand your knowledge, grow your network, and develop interpersonal and leadership skills, fostering both personal and professional growth to help you thrive at university and beyond.

Integrity

We are guided by respect, accountability, professional ethics and responsibility in all that we do. We prioritise transparency, to create a culture of openness and trust to empower you to contribute to meaningful shared outcomes.

Adaptability

We encourage flexibility and openness to change, empowering you to adapt and grow in a dynamic environment where continuous improvement and innovation are central to our university experience.

Our approach

At La Trobe University, our approach to Students as Partners is guided by four key categories that highlight the different ways students and staff can collaborate. These include:

Consultation Contributors

You can expect our staff will actively seek and value your unique perspectives, gathering insights that help shape future planning.

Dialogue Initiators

You can actively engage in ongoing dialogue, ensuring your input directly influences decisions and outcomes.

Decision Makers

You are empowered to shape projects and initiatives, develop solutions and make decisions.

Co-Designers

Students and staff collaborate to design and develop outcomes such as resources or initiatives, with shared decision-making and joint ownership.
