Subject outline
In this subject students will be introduced to and examine ideas and methodologies relevant to practice-led research. In weekly seminars students will engage with key ideas, theories and methodological frameworks, which will inform and help refine their research question/proposal and develop a research methodology appropriate to their year-long project. Subjects covered in the seminars will include the investigation of advanced theory, the development of research skills and an exploration of methodological approaches in a contemporary art and practice-led context. This will be complemented by gallery visits and studio critique sessions. Students will expand their theoretical knowledge and develop critical, analytical and research skills required to write a minor thesis (exegesis) which through the exploration of content and contextual data describes their area of research interest. This subject is linked to the second semester subject VPA4RMB and the writing of the final exegesis and must be undertaken concurrently with VPA4SPA in Semester 1. Honours can only be completed full time.
