Subject outline

In this subject students will be provided with the skills necessary to systematically review scientific evidence to inform clinical decisions in orthoptic and ophthalmic practice. Students will develop a comphensive understanding of research through participation in the process of inquiry and will be involved in problem formulation, research design, data collection and synthesis and the crtical appraisal of literature. Students will also consider the clinical relevance of outcomes and the ethics of research.

04. Communicate coherent and sustained arguments in relation to orthoptic practice research to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Activities:
Identify the need for clinical change. Identify an example of good and bad evidence for clinical practice. Formulate strategy for evidence dissemination. Produce a dissertation of original work identifying a topic or clinical problem, the application of evidence to the problem, and comment on the applicability to changes in clinical practice. Self-directed independent research.
