Subject outline
In this subject students will learn to apply their restorative skills to provide direct simple restorations in the adult patient (over the age of 25 years). Development of clinical judgment skills in identifying teeth which may be safely treated by an oral health therapist with simple direct restorations and developing a greater understanding of the complexity of adult restorative care, will be the focus of this subject. This subject will highlight issues of scope of practice and the legislation under which oral health therapists practice.

01. Competently assess a patient's medical history and current medications to identify contraindications for simple restorative care and make appropriate referral for advice.

02. Undertake a comprehensive examination of adult patients to identify simple restorative treatment needs and those that require referral to a dentist.

03. Justify the use of, and use clinically, direct dental restorative materials in clinical situations.

04. Demonstrate understanding of areas of more complex dental restorative care, such as fixed and removable prosthodontics and endodontics.
