MANAGING HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL

Subject outline

Nurses and other health care clinicians recognise the enormous privilege and massive responsibility they have in respect to ensuring patients' wellbeing. However, this privilege and responsibility should not to be taken for granted. This subject looks at what nurses, and especially those in senior leadership and managerial positions, can do to ensure staff and organisational practices reflect a patent-cantered culture. The Report of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry 2013 - which revealed catastrophic consequences for patients when leaders and managers abdicate their responsibility for tackling an insidious negative culture of tolerance of poor standards -will be used as a platform for generating students' learning in this subject. The subject is divided into five modules.
