Subject outline

In Upstart, students apply core journalism and media skills in the working newsrooms of La Trobe's student-driven media outlets Upstart Magazine or La Trobe Live. Both streams deliver work-ready newsroom skills, as students produce industry standard media content to deadline. For Upstart, students will write and edit copy to deadline, manage and edit copy from contributors, moderate comments, utilise social media to publicise upstart.net.au's content and activities, write search engine optimised (SEO) standfirsts and headlines and collaborate with other editors, writers and academic staff to ensure content meets industry standards. At La Trobe Live students will produce, present and publish live shows every week, using La Trobe's leading broadcast facilities. Students must adhere to industry standard broadcast guidelines, and produce broadcast content that is creative, engaging and aimed at an identified audience. This subject is the extension of JRN3UP2, and only available to students who have been successful in that subject with the subject coordinator's approval.
