Subject outline

This subject provides students with the fundamental principles of the underlining mechanisms of human disease and how these mechanisms impact on clinical outcomes. Emphasis begins with general disease processes including cell injury, cell adaptations, inflammation, immunopathology, tissue healing, neoplasia and circulatory disturbances. Specific pathological conditions of body systems e.g. cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous and skeletal systems along with diabetes will be addressed.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes

01. Apply the principles of General Pathology to selected human disorders and reparative states by demonstrating understanding of general principles of disease processes and tissue healing, and describing how these general pathologic processes impact on possible clinical courses and outcomes in an afflicted individual.

Activities:
Students will undertake two online quizzes based on interactive session (lecture), online video and Workshop content. Cumulative Case Study Enquiries will also be undertaken in Workshops and these Enquiries reflect what is covered in interactive sessions (lectures) and online videos; however, there will also be extra content that will not be covered in lectures or online videos. Workshops will mostly involve the use of clicker technology. Students undertake these Workshops in teams comprising 5-6 individuals.

02.
