Subject outline
This seminar orients Gender Sexuality and Diversity Studies students into further research by engaging with key interdisciplinary debates and texts in this field. Students will learn how feminist, anti-racist/postcolonial theory and queer theory developed their critique of knowledge and research practices in the Humanities, Social and Physical Sciences. Maintaining a focus on social justice and political transformation, students are exposed to how methodological questions and theoretical debates change with time and context. Students will develop sensitivity to how various disciplines connect and diverge with one another as they negotiate questions of subjectivity, power and knowledge. Academics from across the Faculty, will lead seminars on the processes and approaches to further research on specific topics. Finally, students will learn to hone their skills in thinking, writing and inquiry as they use course material to develop and enhance their own research question.
